How this estimate works

This calculator follows eBay's selling fees for most categories in the US: a final value fee of 13.6% on the total sale up to $7,500 per item, and 2.35% on the portion above $7,500. A per-order fee is added automatically — $0.30 for orders of $10 or less, $0.40 for orders over $10.

eBay calculates fees on the total amount of the sale (item price plus sales tax on domestic orders). Shipping and handling on this calculator are your costs — they reduce profit and are not added to what eBay treats as sale revenue. If you charge the buyer for shipping, include that amount in the sale price. There are no separate payment processing fees — the final value fee covers payments. Sales tax is estimated from the destination state; eBay collects and remits it, so it is not counted as money you keep.

If the package is sent to an international destination, this calculator adds eBay’s 1.65% international fee and turns off US destination sales tax (pick a destination state only for domestic sales).

Some categories use different rates, including Books & Magazines, Movies & TV, Music, Coins & Paper Money, trading cards, jewelry, watches, and athletic shoes. eBay Store subscribers also have their own fee table with lower rates in many categories.

Not included in this estimate: insertion fees after your 250 free listings each month ($0.35 per listing), optional listing upgrades like Bold or Subtitle, the $20 dispute fee, and extra charges for sellers rated Below Standard.

This is an independent planning tool, not an official eBay calculator. Check your Seller Hub for the exact rates on your account before you list. Full details are in eBay's selling fees help article.

eBay fee calculator FAQ

For most US categories (non-Store), eBay charges 13.6% of the total amount of the sale up to $7,500 per item, then 2.35% on the portion over $7,500, plus a per-order fee of $0.30 (orders $10 or less) or $0.40 (orders over $10). International destinations add a 1.65% international fee. Store subscribers have a separate fee table.

Per eBay’s selling fees help page, the total can include item price, shipping collected from the buyer, handling charges, and sales tax. This calculator treats the Shipping and Handling fields as your fulfillment costs (they reduce profit). If you charge the buyer for shipping, include that in the sale price. Sales tax is estimated from the destination state for domestic sales.

Many resellers aim for roughly 30%+ net margin after fees, shipping, and item cost, or a fixed dollar profit per flip. Thin margins can still work on fast-moving inventory. Use the calculator to set a bar before you buy.
